Fury

Fury by Shirley Marr

"Hell Have No Fury Like A Woman Scorned"

Eliza is sixteen, finishing her final year of school and looking forward to the new sports car her mother has promised to buy her when she passes her driving test. Until then she has to put up with her elite school environment, wealthy but absent mother and sometimes infuriating but best friends.

The last thing anybody expected to happen in the perfect world of East Rivermoor, the wealthy suburb surrounded by a high fence to keep out the poor and dangerous alike, is for one of their own to commit murder. Eliza's confession is a dark and emotional story told with a raw honesty that doesn't sugar-coat what she has done or why. There is no excuse although she has her reasons but she's not sorry for it, not at all.

Fury is compelling, messy, complicated and just a little bit heartbreaking. When pushed to the edge and broken down with no one to turn to, belittled and victimised, is it any wonder that things turn vindictive? Eliza is selfish, spoilt and stuck up and that doesn't change but somehow her soft and vulnerable core shines through endearing us to this fiery redhead who deep down is as lost and broken as the rest of us. A brilliant debut novel.

Ash

Ash by Malinda Lo

Love Can Change Your World!

After Aisling's mother died her father remarried, soon after her father died also. All alone in the world Aisling was left to be raised by her stepmother, a woman who insisted she work of the debts left behind by her father. So Ash, the daughter of a gentleman, was forced to become a servant to her stepmother and her two stepsisters.

If this story sounds familiar so far then it should, for Ash is a re-imagining of Cinderella. But where Cinderella is rescued by a fairy-godmother and a handsome prince, Ash is indebted to a hansom faery and has to learn to save herself. Here love takes on many forms and for Ash love is found in the woods, a special place to Ash and her true love, but who is the one she truly loves?

Ash's world is a mixture of new customs and old traditions steeped in an ancient land full of stories and enchantment. You have never heard the story of Cinderella told like this before, where a heroine must fight to save herself and to be with the one she loves, where inner strength is found through confidence, belief and love. Ash is a story full of magic and a fairytale full of fairy tales.

Pocket Money Puffins: Vamoose!

POCKET MONEY PUFFINS:
Vamoose!
by Meg Rosoff

Imagine That, A Baby Moose!

Apparently its not that uncommon to have a baby moose, it's rare, but not uncommon. When at seventeen Jess has to break the news to her mother that she is pregnant, she never thought that she would have to explain to her mother that her baby was not like other human babies, but a baby moose. An unwed teenage mother could have worse problems couldn't she?

Vamoose is a quirky little light-hearted story that manages to impress the pressures and difficulties of being a mother, especially when that mother is still only really a child herself and when that mother has a baby that is not altogether what was expected. But when life throws us something crazy, it just may be the best thing that ever happened to us; then again it just may be something crazy. The perfect bit size read for those on the go.

POCKET MONEY PUFFINS:
Infinity
by Sarah Dessen

All Things Are Connected!

Its not her boyfriend Anthony that has her feeling pressured, although he is doing his best to be persuasive where there relationship is concerned, but the round about that has her feeling anxious. Maybe its something she has picked up from her mother, a feeling of fear ingrained in her from the incident at the roundabout that left her mother determined to never enter it again, or is it her own sense of guilt for not supporting her mother by also boycotting the circular death trap?

Infinity is a short story about growing up, learning about life and making the choices that are right for you. Everyone comes to their own decisions in their own time and rushing into things can sometimes only makes things worse. Soul Screamers #2

SOUL SCREAMERS:
My Soul To Save by Rachel Vincent

Should I Stay Or Should I Go!

It has been only weeks since Kaylee has discovered that she is a bean sidhe and only weeks since she witnessed her aunts death, as well as the deaths of four other innocent girls; her best friend Emma almost one of them. But Kaylee is about to learn that there is more to the world then reapers and bean sidhes'.

Kaylee now has two new men in her life; her boyfriend Nash who was there for her with the truth when no one else was and her father who for as long as she can remember has been absent. If Kaylee thought things were awkward before they are about to get a whole lot more complicated. Forced to skip school, break rules and downright lie, Kaylee will have to make a choice, her life or the life of a complete stranger.

When Kaylee crosses over to the dark side she begins to realise just how much danger she is really in. Soulless pop-stars, demons, love sick reapers and overbearing fathers may not be the biggest hurdles she has to face, if she can not get over her own sense of guilt, and a nasty little vine, it may not be just her life lost. Kaylee must realise she can't save everyone, or the price she pays will be herself.

My Soul To Save through sacrifice and love, but it may not be enough. Kaylee is delving deeper into the dark and dangerous world of the Netherworld in a way that is daring and energetic. With a focus on trust, friendships and doing what is right there is just the right blend of mystery, danger and romance to keep any reader satisfied. It's a real scream!
